Am sure all of you’ve heard of the term water boarded – made famous during the Bush Regime/guantanamobay.
But we’ve been WHITE BOARDED! And We LOVE it!
An overarching culture in OutSmart is to ALWAYS do something different in everything we do. This way:
1. You challenge yourself
2. You feel proud about doing something different
3. You have great satisfaction spending your hours doing something you love
4. Thus you can sleep really well at night knowing you gave it your absolute best shot
5. You have a great time working with a bunch of people who come with high standards to think the same way
Zia’s initial thoughts for the white board was to straight away have them cut up into something unique. Initially, Venkat did try and not agree (as he is most usually accused of doing), but came around after looking at the sketches.
These were the initial sketches we came up with…
This one was for the creatives…a bulb for an idea…
And this one was for the conference/recreation room…
At the start of the very long discussions we usually have before we go into production, we felt it would be prudent to check all possible material we could use for the white board production before we actually sign the dotted line. The options were the actual *white* board, and glass.
Glass sounded fantastic. It even looks fantastic. So we checked with a merchandiser. He sounded pricey. But he let it slip that we could get it done by Balaji Glassworks ourselves.
Balaji Glassworks is a leading supplier of glass – and they have some fantastic computer based CNC machines or something to cut the glass in any shape you want. But the prices they quoted sent us reeling. I dont even want to remember them!
So here we were, sitting down…and wondering what to do. FLASH!
We had been talking to a merchandiser/production guy a while back…and we unfortunately got him involved in our ideating discussions and he made a beeline for the exit. And that was the last we saw of him. But he was a smart guy, who knew what were talking about from the get-go.
So I decided to give him a shot and called him in…and the following pictures are the very VERY funky results!
Installing the whiteboards right is key. They need to be high enough, so that you can stretch out and write…and low enough just above your waist so you dont strain your wrist in a very weird way whilst penning down everyone’s ideas.
More measurements…we’re quite picky…at one point, we made these guys hold up the white board (which apparently weighs 35 kilos) while we got into one of our discussions on why the earth is round again…and I got accused of being illiterate by these guys. Well, I just sucked it in.
The drilling begins…theres no turning back now!
Mounting it…easy does it…
and getting it just about right…folks at OutSmart are very PICKY perfectionists…
TADAAAAA!
AND WE’RE ON it like a pack of hungry rats!
The other cloudy creation in the conference/leisure room…
Zia kissed both the boards and hugged them tight.
I think now people @ OutSmart360 are gonna love meetings…and more people are gonna want to write on the board
Yep, those are reflective borders………..ha ha!

We have a lot of non-kannadiga’s working with us in the Office. So we felt it would be a good idea to get us all taught Kannada – something we’re pretty sure will help us in our every day life – as well as assimilate us better in the local environment.
And thus the Kannada classes [...]

Over the past couple of years since we started out, we’ve been churning out some fantastic design work for our customers and for ourselves. Honestly, I’ve been mighty chuffed about every single piece of creative that’s gone out of our desks.
Our internal design – though rockstar – proved to be difficult to string together. Almost [...]
